Mohawk Technology’s Mechatronics Group helps customers meet modern manufacturing needs through automation and robotics.

Customers from dairy to aerospace work with us to implement automation solutions on factory lines. We combine controls, mechanical, and robotic engineering into a single cohesive solution, helping customers improve business ROI.

Engineers in the Mechatronics Group gained experience with Fortune 500 companies across North America before joining Mohawk Technology. This highly experienced unit solves factory challenges that overcome workforce limitations and improve manufacturing automation.

“Our broad engineering capability means we can initiate a robot project, design the machine, develop the programming, integrate it with controls outside the robot, and connect it to ancillary equipment,” says Randy Keranen, Head of Mechatronics Sales.

While Mohawk Technology still specializes in turn-key process systems, it also delivers new machines and integrates machines with existing systems for customers. The combined process and robotics expertise improves factory outcomes and efficiency.

Recent Work - Palletizing Robot Cell

Mohawk Technology worked with our customer to design a customized robot cell for the palletizing of 20-pound cheese rounds. There were several challenges with this product that required a unique method of palletizing. The video shows the incremental stretch wrapping of the product as the layers increase due to the inherently unstable nature of the cheese rounds. A second stretch wrapper helps to meet the cycle time requirements of the system. Slip sheets are placed in a variety of positions on the pallets. In addition, the product is weighed and labeled as it comes into the system. Our control system tracks the product as it gets palletized. The Fanuc robot utilizes precise laser sensors to verify that the product is properly vacuum sealed prior to palletizing it. An automatic pallet feeder further reduces manpower requirements.

Mohawk Technology custom palletizing FANUC robot - stretch wrapping a pallet of cheese

Palletizing

Customers in dairy and food industries select Mohawk Technology for the design, integration, and installation of palletizing robots. Projects are integrated with a wide range of systems specifically engineered for each customer. These may include metal detectors, vision systems, labelers, and conveyors. Customized options change based on factory needs, but can include end-of-arm tools, pallet configurations, safety requirements, and speed requirements.

Mohawk Technology custom robotic case packing system

Case Packing

Dairy customers with cheese and ingredient factories use Mohawk Technology for the design, integration, and installation of case packing systems. The addition of automated case packing allows cartons to be erected and fed into position so the system can initiate the packing process. Multiple products are typically packed into a single carton. Business ROI is maximized through speed and reliability improvements, labor cost savings, and reductions in workplace injuries.

Customers also rely on Mohawk Technology to implement fully integrated custom automation systems. These projects often include unique applications for robots and naturally include customer engineering. However, these systems are commonly built using individual elements that can be easily maintained by in-house maintenance staff.
